World Pulse is hiring a Technology Associate.
WORLD PULSE is an action media network powered by women from 190 countries. We believe that when women are heard, they will transform the world.

Through our growing web-based platform, women are speaking out and connecting to create solutions from the frontlines of today’s most pressing issues. With a focus on grassroots women change leaders, our programs nurture community, provide media and empowerment training, and broadcast rising voices to influential forums.
World Pulse was founded as a non-profit social media enterprise in 2003. With a core team based in Portland, Oregon, World Pulse works with hundreds of volunteers from around the world and is supported by an international community of grassroots women leaders, contributing members, and visionary philanthropists.
Description
Reports to: Senior Technology Architect
Works directly with: entire staff
Supervises: N/A
Terms: This position is full time, subject to deductions for taxes and other withholdings as required by law and the policies of the organization. This is a non-exempt position. Salary is dependent on experience.
Job Purpose: The Technology Associate will be responsible for assisting in the research, implementation, maintenance, and support of various components of World Pulse’s technology infrastructure, including our online presence at worldpulse.com, various tools and external services, as well as basic I.T. needs (computers, printers, phones, etc). The desired candidate will possess exemplary communication skills, outstanding attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, the eagerness to excel in all responsibilities listed below, and the capability to grow their role at World Pulse.

Responsibilities
  • Support the technology needs of the World Pulse team, including technology troubleshooting, support, and research and selection of new tools and services.
  • Assist with website development projects, including research, tool selection, implementation, and testing.
  • Support and empower content managers and other team members to meet day-to-day needs of adding and updating content in the website content management system (Drupal) and email campaign service (MailChimp), including supporting the use of HTML and CSS.
  • Manage and monitor various external technology services (Google Apps, domain name registrations, etc).
  • Manage, synchronize, migrate, and integrate data between services as needed (e.g., website, CRM, and email lists).
  • Export, analyze, and create reports on data from the website (e.g., Google Analytics) and other sources as needed.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot onsite technology resources and infrastructure as needed.
  • Create documentation to build internal technology knowledge base, including instructions (e.g., how to connect to the printer), technical processes (e.g., creating email accounts and other onboarding requirements for new staff), and general technology information (e.g., creating secure passwords).
  • Collaborate on technology strategy development.
  • Be available during regularly scheduled hours.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and related open-source software and languages.
  • Collaborate on UX and UI design and demonstrate innovative and thoughtful strategies, designs, and experiences.
  • Ability to work with design files and associated tools, including Photoshop.
  • Understand and work within project parameters: goals, requirements, usability, technical constraints, and schedule.
  • Follow standards and style guides for code, comments, and written text.
  • Test and debug at all levels, from unit to acceptance.
  • Work with other members of the team on problems, but also work individually as required by the project. Be self-motivated, but collaborative.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Experience working with HTML5 and CSS, JavaScript (especially jQuery).
  • Proficiency in standard business software such as Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel).
  • Familiarity with Windows and Mac OS X.
  • Enthusiasm for open-source philosophy and community involvement.
  • Passionate about web technologies and making them accessible to a global community.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work both independently and cooperatively with team members is required.
  • Professional, yet personable, demeanor.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Familiarity with Flickr and ability to manage digital assets.
  • Familiarity with PHP and SQL.
  • Familiarity with UX and UI design concepts.
  • Familiarity with revision control systems.
  • Familiarity with popular industry APIs from providers like Facebook and Google.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Experience with product development processes and working with internal stakeholders on iterative project designs towards a final product.
  • Experience working directly with team members of varying levels of technical proficiency for implementation of projects.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to communicate in a clear way.
  • Understanding of basic web hosting concepts.
Bonus Skills and Experience
  • Experience building and optimizing websites.
  • Familiarity with Linux.
  • Foreign language skills.
